Carpets Overview

The oldest carpet dates back from the 4th-5th century BCE, which makes carpets one of the oldest floor covering. In South Africa we have 3 market leaders that manufacture carpets locally. In no particular order Belgotex, Nouwens and Van Dyck.

Most carpets consist of a yarn pile, commonly nylon or polypropylene which is typically knotted or glued to a base called the backing of the Carpet. Carpets are normally installed on a padding or underfelt and need to be stretched and fastened against the walls or to a profile, this is best done by a professional with the right tools for the job. (Not recommended as a DIY product)

Luxurious, Comfort, Soft, Warm are just some of the words that comes to mind about carpets and with so many different options we will guide your threw the different weaves and fibres available in South Africa. Like any type of flooring carpets also has it down sides but if you prefer the warmth and luxary then you will probably accept the extra care and maintanance needed for your new carpet.
