Laminated flooring became known in Europe during the 1960's and has enjoyed popularity in European flooring market since. It is only recently in the late 1990's that the click lock system was introduced after which laminated flooring grew in popularity which in turn started the mass production of laminated flooring which made the product more affordable to the masses.

The laminated flooring production in the west has grown and now produces a considerable percentage of the worlds laminated flooring. This has been a rocky ride and started off with some very inferior products which did not do laminated flooring much favours. Since then the quality of laminated flooring out of the west has improved considerably although there is still some inferior products made in China.

Laminated flooring, as a fairly young flooring product is still enjoying ongoing advances and changes to make it a better product with manufacturers on a regular basis coming up with new ideas and products in this industry , this has provided a very wide choice of different designs and options which can at best become a bit confusing to the home owner.
