Linoleum Overview

Linoleum which is not to be mistaken with Vinyl, has been around for about a 150 years and has made a comeback due to its durability and unusual colouring which can only be found in nature, another reason is that it is a environmentally friendly product which is made from natural raw materials. Linoleum has mostly been used in commercial applications but with the development of the product it is now available in better and wider range of colours also making it visually attractive for home use.
Environmentally preferred linoleum is made from Linseed oil as the primary ingredient, other ingredient includes wood or cork powder, resins, ground limestone and mineral pigments providing the rich colours. These products are mixed together, rolled out onto a jute backing and then cured in ovens for 14 to 21 days.
Linoleum are also known as Marmoleum where Marmoleum is a trade name and the two are the same thing.
